Lauren Saiyad on Parenting

Godly discipline is where love and freedom replace punishment and fear as the motivating forces in the relationship between a parent and child. It allows children to grow through their mistakes and to learn from the consequences of their choices. The Bible tells us: "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." 1 John 4:18

When we train our children to obey because of fear - by presenting an external threat, we handicap their understanding of how the Kingdom of Heaven works.
What is our ultimate goal in parenting our children? Are we concerned with their hearts or are we more concerned that "the sock ends up in the laundry basket?"
Jesus promoted relationship above "the rules". Love and relationship are the bottom line of the Kingdom, and they must be ours if we wish to establish a Kingdom Culture in our homes.
